Climbers

Where to learn

nicolel said Tue, 05 Feb 2008 10:36:29 -0800

I realize this forum isn't too active, but thought I'd give it a shot anyways.

I am interested in learning to climb when the weather gets better. I love the outdoors, am quite athletic, love a challenge, and looking for some excitement!

Basicly, I'm hoping someone here could point me in the right direction. How would I go about learning? For the time being(ugh, winter), are there any indoor climbing centres within the Comox Valley area? Is there such a thing as lessons and coaches?

I can't seem to find any information about climbing centres in the CV, but I have seen advertisements for one in Campbell River. Good place to learn? or no?

Thanks in advance.

there is a small indoor climbing wall in Cumberland at the CRI centre (336-2231). I work there. its only open friday night and sat/sunday afternoon. its a bit old but only cost $4 if you have your gear. vs $12-$15 at any other climbing gym. these guys are from Cumberland and do all sorts of courses. http://www.islandalpineguides.com/
indoor you can learn the basics and will meet people that could take you outside to learn real climbing. Also read as many books as you can on the subject.
