Climbers

Sidney

New to this forum...

I'll be living part-time in Sidney from now until January and moving to Sidney full time (from Colorado) by January 2009. I'll be out for the next 2.5 weeks although the weather looks not-so-great.

Anyone on this forum live in the Sidney area? It would be nice to start making some climbing connections.

My husband and I have dropped in on some of the island gyms (the one at the school near Sidney and Crag X) and I am looking forward to scoping out the outdoor climbing on the island. I need to pick up a guidebook at some point soon.

cool
there is no all encompassing rock climbing guide book for the island. there is one for the alpine. (Island Alpine, by phil stone). there are many little guide books for the generally small cragging areas. MEC in victoria has many of the guide books. we even have a bit of ice. alpine ice can be good, but the weather is tricky and the approaches suck. deep snow and bushy mayhem keeps all but the most determined away.

Thanks John, I'll definitely check out the mini-guides at MEC in Victoria next time we go "to town". I've never done any ice climbing.

Just a quick note on the guide books. There is a book for the Victoria, Sooke area that is available at Valhalla outfitters that is not available at mec.

Thanks Ben - I'll look for that. Livia
